Hello Party People!
Every single weekend I learn an awesome lesson or two to pass along to my fellow party organizers. For this week, it’s really a lesson about keeping it simple. EVEN if you can afford to do lots of things!
We all know how much we love our kids. But, we have to be realistic. Having magic shows, and carnival games, and bounce houses, and balloon twisters all going on at the same time for a group of 20 kids is painful for everyone. Performer and kid alike!
Do one thing at a time and give the kids time to enjoy it. I promise, the KISS plan to party planning will pay off every time!
1) Free Flowing or Super Organized:
The first step is to decide if you want free flowing atmosphere or if you want it to be super organized and have someone “babysit” and run activities. If you decide on organized, stay away from lots of stations that will distract the kids. Just focus on a performer to run activities like a games master. IF you want free-flowing, have a station or two for face-painting, balloons, caricatures, glitter tattoos, etc.
2) Jumper or Not?:
If you have 20 kids and have booked entertainment, the jumper will only compete with the performer and make it that much harder to organize activities. Less is more.
3) Try to Get a Package:
Lots of companies will offer games, face-painting, balloons, and other things in one rate with one performer. This is a great way to get more bang for your buck.
4) Age Range:
Keep in mind the AVERAGE age range of the children attending and gear your party to that. If you have 9 year olds, a clown is NOT gonna work. But a video game truck would be great! Alternately, lots of games with rules is not gonna work for 3 year olds.
5) Gender Neutrality:
If you have a big mix of boys and girls, consider that when booking your entertainment. IF you have 20 6-7 year old kids and over half of them are boys, Cinderella might be a little isolating for most of your little guests. As a final note: Do one thing at a time and give the kids time to enjoy it. I promise, the KISS plan to party planning will pay off every time!
